Setting Up Keyboard Shortcuts in DeskRest

This guide explains how to create and manage custom keyboard shortcuts in DeskRest, allowing you to quickly access important functions with simple key combinations.

How to Set Up or Change Keyboard Shortcuts

  1. 1.

    Open DeskRest from your Applications folder or using Spotlight search.

    Click the DeskRest icon in your menu bar and select Settings.

  3. 3.

    In the sidebar, navigate to General, then select the Keyboard Shortcuts tab.

  4. 4.

    You can assign shortcuts to five different functions:

    • Restart DeskRest: Reset and restart the current timer
    • Add One Minute: Extend your current focus session by 1 minute
    • Add Five Minutes: Extend your current focus session by 5 minutes
    • Start Short Break: Begin a short break immediately
    • Start Long Break: Begin a long break immediately

    Click the "+ Set Keyboard Shortcut" button next to your desired function.

  6. 6.

    Press your preferred key combination.

    • Important: All shortcuts must include the Command key (⌘).

  7. 7.

    Once successfully set, your key combination will appear in place of the "Set Keyboard Shortcut" button.

    To change or delete a shortcut, hover over the displayed combination with your mouse and click the X icon that appears.
